In July 2007, Paola traveled back to her hometown, Berovo, situated in the hills of eastern Macedonia. She met Milo Destanovski - teacher, musician, community leader, and director of the Malesh-Roma folkloric troupe. Milo, Paola, and the town of Berovo are dedicated to making a yearly festival happen there. A festival for lovers of Balkan and Rom culture, for musicians, dancers, epicureans, and spirited supporters.
